Baseball and Softball Program Update

This change primarily affects players aged 7 and 8. There is no need to adjust your registration; we will assign players to appropriate teams and programs based on their age. If you have not yet registered, please register your child in the program available on the site; he or she will be placed in the appropriate program based on birthdate. Here are the different programs that we plan to run:

Diamondball (for Players aged 5 and 6 as of April 30th)

For boys and girls ages 5-6,  born between May 1, 2011 through April 30, 2013. Intended to introduce and develop skills in hitting, throwing, and catching, in addition to some game play. There will be two events (practices and/or games) per week, one on a weeknight and one on Saturday. Diamondball will be run as a "clinic" with all Shepaug Diamondball players together for all practices. Teams will be formed and games played the last 3-4 weeks of the season. Coaches will pitch during games; tees will also be used as needed. Parents are encouraged to help at practices. The cost of this program is $50.

Rookies (for players aged 7 and 8 as of April 30th)

For boys and girls ages 7-8, born between May 1, 2009 and April 30, 2011. Generally two practices during the week and a game on Saturday, with games against other Shepaug teams and Woodbury teams. Will focus on skill development for players at all levels of skill and experience. Designed to allow for players of all levels to be challenged while developing their skills. Players will participate in drills that improve their throwing, catching, hitting, and base-running. Players will be introduced to position play and strategy. Games will use the Louisville Slugger Pitching Machine. The cost of this program is $125; players who initially signed up for Diamondball will be asked to pay the additional $75 for this program after they are assigned to a team. 7 year-olds will be allowed to play Diamondball instead of Rookies if the family prefers.

Junior Baseball (for players aged 9 and 10 as of April 30th)

For boys and girls ages 9-10, born between May 1, 2007 and April 30, 2009. Generally two practices during the week and a game on Saturday, with games against other Shepaug teams and New Milford teams. Will focus on skill development for players at all levels of skill and experience. Designed to allow for players of all levels to be challenged while developing their skills. Players will participate in drills that improve their throwing, catching, hitting, and base-running. Players will be introduced to position play and strategy. Players will pitch in games.

Baseball Players Aged 11 and Older and Softball Players

Players will be welcomed to play in New Milford if there are not enough players to form a Shepaug team.
